SASVic offers six member forums for staff working in specialist sexual assault and harmful sexual behaviour services. All member forums take place online.

Justice and legal advocacy

Chaired by Hannah Webster from our Justice, Rights and Equity Team, our Justice and Legal Advocacy Forum will:
- Take stock of recent developments, including law reform announcements on confidential communications and pre-recorded evidence (see this letter from Attorney General Sonya Kilkenny on Instagram) and updates on our Justice Navigator and Civil Justice and Recovery Projects
- Hear from litigation lawyer Angela Sdrinis and financial adviser Andy Reynolds on their multi-disciplinary compensation work with victim survivors of sexual violence, including in the Ashley Youth Detention Centre class action (Judge approves ‘momentous’ $75 million settlement for former Ashley Youth Detention Centre detainees – ABC News)

Disability forum
29 July 2026
Hear from the Office of the Public Advocate (an independent statutory officer with considerable legislative power to promote and safeguard the rights and interests of people with disability) and how our services can engage with them in relation to adults with disability.
You’ll also hear from Divergent Futures on how services can recognise neurodivergent support needs and integrate neurodivergent affirming approaches.

TRAINING COURSES
SASVic runs a range of training for workers in the sector. Some of the courses below are also open to professionals working in with victim survivors outside of the specialist sexual assault sector.
Supporting victim survivors through the legal system
Join experts across Victoria Police, the Office of Public Prosecutions and the legal profession to learn about the legal process and supports for victim survivors of sexual assault.
In 2026, this training will be offered three times, once in person and twice online. The in-person training will run across two days in Melbourne, while the online training will run across three sessions. You only need to register once.

Orientation to the Specialist Sexual Assault Sector
SASVic is piloting a new, free professional development opportunity for workers who are new to or have recently entered the specialist sexual assault sector.
This orientation is designed to support new workers to develop a contextual understanding of the specialist sexual assault Sector, grounding them in the sector’s purpose, values, history, and the broader context in which the sector operates.
Presenters will explore key topics, including:
- the philosophy and values of the specialist sexual assault sector
- the service system and how it is structured
- the REACH project
- the current policy context
- the National Standards of Practice.
This training is ideal for workers seeking a shared understanding of the sector early in their role.
The pilot was delivered online across two sessions on 24 & 25 February.
The course will run again in person (Melbourne) on Wednesday 21 October.
Foundations in Sexual Violence 6-day Short Course
Each year, SASVic hosts a 6-day short course covering topics such as feminist theory and historical perspectives, sexual violence, child sexual abuse and intersectional framings.
Our 2026 course has just finished up!
The course is delivered by Professor Fiona Vera-Gray, the Deputy Director of The Child and Women Abuse Studies Unit (CWASU).
This course draws on content from CWASU’s Women and Child Abuse Master’s program, tailored for a local context.

Introduction to clinical supervision
This one-day introductory workshop on clinical supervision focuses on practitioners that are currently or soon to be providing clinical supervision within the specialist sexual assault sector.
The workshop covers:
clinical supervision and its functions
the purpose of supervision models
frameworks that inform clinical supervision in the specialist sexual assault sector
components of effective supervision
how clinical supervision can support professional wellbeing.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellations:
- Cancellation on or before two weeks prior to the event commencement date – full refund.
- Cancellation within two weeks prior to the event commencement date – no refunds available, unless in extenuating circumstances. We may offer a credit where possible.
- ‘Extenuating circumstances’ include injury and/or illness preventing attendance, including caring responsibilities for a person who is injured/unwell. We will also consider other extenuating factors that have prevented attendance.
- All requests for refunds must be made in writing to the SASVic Training Team (training@sasvic.org.au).
- In some cases, a minimum number of participants is required for a training to be viable. In the event a session needs to be cancelled, your registration fee will be refunded in full.
Transfers
- Registrations may be transferred to a colleague at any time prior to the event by contacting SASVic Training Team (training@sasvic.org.au).
