Pathways through the sexual and family violence sectors

The cross peak pathways project

SASVic and Safe and Equal have partnered to create a range of resources to support work across the specialist family and sexual violence sectors.

The co-occurrence of family violence and sexual violence is well-established. More than a third of sexual assaults occur within the context of family and domestic violence (ABS, 2020), with these rates likely to be an underestimation. Sexual violence is a very high-risk indicator and indicates that the perpetrator may cause the victim survivor serious injury or death.

The resources include fact sheets, tip sheets and a collaborative practice guide.

To find your local specialist sexual assault service, you can use our interactive map: peak.sasvic.org.au/servicemap or call 1800 806 292 to reach the Sexual Assault Crisis Line, which is available after 5pm and on weekends and public holidays.

Interactive pathways

The following maps illustrate pathways through the specialist sexual assault and family violence sectors.

They provide information on points of entry and access, and support practitioners in the specialist sexual assault and family violence sectors to understand the journey of victim survivors and other people impacted by sexual violence in each sector.

The maps identify the points of intersection where sexual assault and/or family violence may be identified. When need and/or risk is identified there are opportunities for secondary consultations and/or referrals, ensuring practitioners are utilising a continuity of care approach to ensure a victim survivor is supported throughout this process.
