SASVIC POLICY SUBMISSIONS
One of the ways SASVic can achieve the change we need to see is by providing policy submissions to the Victorian and Commonwealth government on a range of policy areas related to sexual violence.
Submission highlight
In 2025, we made a submission to the Australian Government’s Draft National Plan to End the Abuse of Mistreatment of Older People 2024-2034. We said in our submission that the plan could be strengthened with specific actions to prevent and address sexual violence, such as funding the specialist sexual assault sector to include roles dedicated to responding to sexual violence experienced by older people.
SASVIC CAMPAIGNS
Keep counselling notes private
In April 2026, Victoria’s Attorney-General Sonya Kilkenny MP announced that the Victorian Government would be strengthening protections so counselling records and health information cannot be used in court without consent.
Seeking justice is already often a scary, isolating and traumatic experience. Using confidential counselling notes to undermine survivors can cause real harm and stop people from reporting or even seeking counselling.
Victim survivors of sexual violence should have the right to recover without fear.
YourSay and the 2026 Victorian state election
YourSay is now closed and a panel of victim survivor will choose one idea, submitted by the community, for SASVic to campaign on in the lead up to the 2026 Victorian state election in November.
SURVIVOR ADVOCACY
Advocating for change can be transformative for survivors, both personally and socially. It offers the opportunity to place the blame back on the systems that fail us.

SASVic regularly advocates for change through the media, offering informed and independent comment on matters related to sexual violence.
